NoSPHN Workforce Planning and Development Scoping Exercise 2023

NosPHN Workforce Planning and Development at the Regional Level

The NoSPHN Workforce Planning and Development Scoping Report was produced to summarise the position (expressed by the DsPH) impacting their ability to recruit and maintain a qualified, skilled and diverse public health workforce. It set out a broad regional development programme to address the challenges identified.

From the proposed development programme, three priority areas are now being taken forward: Grow our own specialist capacity, co-ordination of specialist trainee placement opportunities and exploration into flexing health intelligence resources.

Grow our Own Specialist Capacity and Skills Mix– this is focussed on identifying and supporting public health staff who are ready for progression with specialist registration. The outcome will be an agreed regional package of support for those who are ready/ nearly ready to complete their UKPHR specialist registration portfolio.

Specialist Trainee Placements: The focus is on promoting and co-ordinating the range of opportunities for Public Health Specialty Registrars to gain experience and complete work in the North of Scotland that will contribute to their learning outcomes. By improving awareness and take up of opportunities for remote and rural placements, it is the aim that participants will have the skills, attitudes and desire to work in rural and remote locations

Exploration into Flexing Health Intelligence Resources. Through the recently re-established Health Intelligence Leads Network the intention is to explore where there are opportunities to work across boards. As Health Intelligence roles can work remotely this lends itself to North of Scotland working.
