Specialist Child Health Services – a needs and evaluative based approach

NoSPHN was asked by the North of Scotland Planning Group (NoSPG) to develop a model to show how added benefit to patients would be demonstrated as a result of investment in Children’s Specialist Services at a regional level.  Work overall included liaison with regional and national groups, the development of a logic model approach to the development and evaluation of the work, the development of a toolkit to support local work and supporting two training events.  Work during 2010 focused specifically on the year 1&2 service developments for the following Networks:

  • Specialist Paediatric Neurology/Epilepsy
  • Specialist Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
  • Specialist Paediatric Respiratory/Cystic Fibrosis
  • General Surgery of Childhood.

Public Health colleagues supported and advised on indicators and data to use as part of the evaluation and also the development of tools to gather feedback from patients and their families of the impact of service developments.  The evaluation and final Child Health Report was presented to NoSPG in June 2011.
