NHS Highland covers an extensive geographical area from John O’Groats in the north to Cambeltown in the south. The major population centres are around the inner Moray Firth (Inverness), Fort William, Wick/Thurso, Helensburgh and Oban with large sparsely populated areas elsewhere.

HOW WORKFORCE IS STRUCTURED AND TYPES OF PUBLIC HEALTH ROLES WITHIN

NHS Highland Directorate of Public Health work encompasses Public Health, Health Improvement, Health Protection and Health Intelligence. The department also hosts the Violence against Women Partnership and Highland Alcohol and Drug Partnership. Public Health staff within Argyll & Bute Health and Social Care Partnership management structure have professional accountability to the Director of Public Health. There are close links across the whole of NHS Highland and effective joint working, functioning as one team.
